As you may know, Glow, Newcastle is a brand-new organisation that has grown out of Newcastle Cultural Education Partnership. We have recently achieved charitable status, and have grand ambitions for the future. Our aim is to ensure that young people aged 0–25 in Newcastle have access to high quality cultural opportunities in school and outside of school.
To lead the organisation through this exciting phase, we’ve appointed Bex Mather as Founding Director.
With a creative practice as a musician and theatre maker, Bex began her professional career as a gigging musician and a youth worker. She has continued to work within the creative, cultural, community and education sector in a range of roles, including co-leading a BA (Hons) in Community Music, and Directing The North East Youth Music Action Zone whilst Head of the Youth and Community Programme at (the then) Sage Gateshead, performing and/or facilitating work in India, Australia, South Africa, America, Brazil and in Europe.
More recently she has been working with Local Cultural Education Partnerships (LCEPs) in North Yorkshire, working as an external evaluator and researcher and has focused on her PhD research: ‘Singing Stories of Seeking and Sanctuary’, exploring the affordances of interdisciplinary youth theatre practice.
We’re really excited to have Bex on board to help us drive forward our ambitions for Glow, Newcastle.
More opportunities to work with us will be coming soon, so please keep an eye on our website and social media pages.
