Newcastle’s Cultural Education Partnership (NCEP) partnered with Outer West Learning Trust and artist John Quinn, to deliver Trust-wide CPD training on creative practice, and bespoke participatory arts and cultural learning projects in collaboration with class teachers in school.
After collaborating with John on their cultural learning projects, teachers said:
“The children are more confident in their own ability and their own processes. I will aim to incorporate more free writing within my teaching when appropriate to allow children greater creative control and expression“ George Sayers, Y5 teacher, Lemington Riverside Primary School.
“It’s given me a framework for allowing the children to follow their inspiration and being able to think deeply about the communications between them, their art and the audience.” Stephen Evans, Y5 teacher Westerhope Primary School.
John worked in partnership with #InspiredBy in eight schools across the Outer West Learning Trust. As a multi-disciplinary artist, he was able to respond to the children’s needs and interests with versatility, creating sculptures, videos, animations, and even a school mural according to each school’s goals.
Adapting to Lockdown restrictions, John created the Colour Brave Company website to enable children to share and enjoy the work they had created.
